Art Program

At Assurance Home, we believe in the healing power of the arts. Our home and campus is filled with works of art- some of which have been created by past residents- so that residents can be immersed in beauty and creativity. We also offer opportunities for our residents to discover their own artistic expressions through weekly art classes. We partner with local artists to facilitate the program, which includes a wide variety of mediums and processes, including but not limited to: Ceramics, woodworking, drawing, and painting.

Horsemanship

Horsemanship

The stables and pastures at Assurance Home are home to approximately 6 gentle horses that are available to the young people in our program. The bond between animals and humans is both therapeutic and fun. With guidance from our Horse Expert, our young people can ride and groom these wonderful creatures and at the same time learn: patience, self-awareness, feelings of accomplishment, trust, relationship development and relaxation techniques.

Field Trips

Field Trip

Exploring the world around us can expand our knowledge and change our views of life.  Assurance Home tries to create happy memories by exposing our young people to new experiences.  Visiting new places is an important part of our growth.  We like to explore interesting places in our community, surrounding communities and our State.  Trips and vacations are planned throughout the year to create enjoyment, something to look forward to and new adventures.

Summer Youth Project

Each child who lives at Assurance Home during the summer will more than likely have a part-time summer job at a local, non-profit agency.  These job experiences allow our kids to learn:  job skills, social skills, budgeting & money management, improved self-esteem, development of feelings of self-reliance, independence, goal-setting and attainment.  (Studies have shown that the earlier a person enters the job market the more likely they will remain gainfully employed throughout their lives).
