Programs offered at Assurance Home

Child abuse is everyone’s problem – and one we must solve together. Children raised with violence are at high risk for developing lifelong patterns of behavioral and emotional difficulties, which can lead to a variety of problems for both victims and society.

Since 1979 Assurance Home has been doing its part to break the cycle of violence. Today, the majority of young people who have successfully completed our program are leading happy, productive lives. They work in our communities, raise their own children, attend college and serve our country through military service.

We believe at-risk children will make progress in their lives if they are in a safe, soothing environment, surrounded by loving adults and given the opportunity to process their trauma.

Assurance Home has created such an environment. Our well-trained staff genuinely cares about the needs of our young people. They strive to provide loving guidance and act as positive role models.

THERAPY

Led by Clinical Director, George Lewis, three Master’s Level Therapists enhance our kids’ ability to process their trauma. We offer group and individual therapy – both required for successful completion of our program – as well as family therapy. Our therapists are available seven days a week and are on call 24 hours a day.

We use a specialized therapeutic process, EMDR, for children diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress. Our close working relationship with a group of local psychiatrists helps us provide a quality continuum of care.

Our therapists provide clinical assessment and individualized treatment for each child admitted, and ongoing assistance once they leave our program.

IN REACH

Many people have heard the term "out-reach." Assurance Home has developed a self-sufficiency training program called "In-Reach."

Over the years, we’ve learned that our young residents need intensive training in the skills that help them become independent and successful. After researching leading programs around the nation, we created In-Reach just for our kids.

Living in a comfortable environment and supported by an encouraging staff, participants in In-Reach get hands-on academic, vocational and career training. They also learn life skills such as budgeting, cooking, shopping, driving, banking and time management, and household tasks from cleaning to personal hygiene.

In-Reach gives young adults a reason to believe in themselves and teaches them to turn within to find success.

Experiential Programs

When you believe in and love kids, you will give them every chance to succeed. Assurance Home’s well-trained, professional therapists assist children with their difficulties in many ways outside the clinical setting.

ART THERAPY

Our therapeutic art program has yielded amazing results, both in the paintings, sculptures and mixed-media works created, and in the young people creating them.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

A great way to help kids feel better about themselves is to engage them in making the world around them a better place. The young people of Assurance Home are actively involved in the community through public school, sports and work.

FIELD TRIPS

Field trips are a great way to explore the many wonderful things life has to offer. We regularly take group trips to fun and interesting sites, helping to offset the negative and hurtful experiences in our children’s past lives.

HORSEMANSHIP

Therapy on horseback, or hippotherapy, has been widely applauded as a great means for teaching kids coping skills and helping them overcome trauma. Assurance Home’s 16-acre facility includes horse stables, riding area and pasture, where horse expert Lee Kyser helps kids ride their way to improved confidence in themselves and others.
